Homebound Library Service

The Homebound Library Service provides regular delivery of library materials to individuals who are not able to use their local library. Service is offered to the physically handicapped, the visually impaired, and short-term shut-ins. Patrons are visited monthly in their place of residence - private home, nursing home, convalescent home, or retirement complex.
Large Type MaterialsA collection of Large Type materials is maintained for Homebound users. Patrons may borrow regular and Large Type books, audio recordings, magazines, Large Type Reader's Digest and Guideposts magazines, and magnifying equipment.
Individuals may request books on a specific topic or in a particular genre or library staff will select a variety of reading material each month. No library cards are issued to Homebound Library Service customers.
Talking BooksHomebound Library Service also serves as a sub-lending agency of the Cleveland Public Library for Talking Book Service. The federal government, through the Library of Congress, provides this service at no charge to eligible citizens. After completing a special application with the assistance of the Homebound Library Services staff, qualified users will be supplied with a special Talking Book cassette player which plays "books" and "magazines" recorded at a special slow speed. Materials are sent directly in the mail; there is no postage fee for returning them.
