May is Older Americans Month: Senior Programs are Planned

National Older Americans Month in May will be recognized with a variety of programs at the Brookfield Branch Library in cooperation with area health specialists.

  • Rachel Street, Pharmacy Manager for Brookfield Giant Eagle, will offer a free prescription medicine audit and other information from 10 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, May 12. Seniors may bring for review any medications they are currently taking.

  • Practice simple techniques from yoga such as breathing, stretching, meditation, and relaxation during Chair Yoga at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 19. Ellen Ford, Manager of Community Health Education for Humility of Mary Health Partners, will explain how these gentle, easy practices can help to lower blood pressure and blood sugar and reduce muscle tension and stress. Limited space is available for Chair Yoga; registration is required by calling the library at (330) 448-8134.

Books with information about retirement, finances, Social Security, and other benefits will be on display all month.

History
The Brookfield Branch Library opened in February 1982, the second branch of the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library. It occupied several rented storefront locations before moving into a new 2,000 square foot library-owned facility in February 1990. The branch expanded in 1999, adding a 2,800 square foot addition.
