CURRENT BOOKMOBILE SCHEDULE

January – April 2024: W-TCPL Bookmobile Schedule

Celebrating 85 Years of Bookmobile Service

Using the Bookmobile

The Warren-Trumbull County Public Library’s Bookmobile service is free! Library cardholders can check out materials including books, movies, and music; pick up requested items; and return items.

The Bookmobile uses an automated circulation system that connects in real time to the library’s main computer system. Bookmobile staff can place reserves and make SearchOhio requests for materials not available on the Bookmobile.

The Bookmobile is now in service four days per week, with two stops of 2.5 hours each day. This schedule allows staff to re-stock the Bookmobile between stops.

About the Bookmobile

A new vehicle to replace the library system’s former Bookmobile, which had been in service since 2007, was purchased in 2020. New Bookmobile Announcement

The interior of the Bookmobile is spacious and bright with a large selection of library materials. The truck holds approximately 3,500 books, large type books, DVDs, and compact discs, including an expanded selection of fiction titles, audio books, and movies.

In 2019, the Mobile Library Services Department served 14,588 people, and 130,351 items were circulated.

Bookmobile Features

The custom Bookmobile took one year to build and was completed in August of 2020. Summit Bodyworks Specialty Vehicles of Fort Lupton, Colorado, a leading builder of bookmobile and community outreach vehicles, built the W-TCPL Bookmobile. The library worked closely with the company to design storage and shelving features, with an emphasis on customer comfort, convenience, and safety.

The Bookmobile overall is 34 feet 4 inches long. The cab is a 2020 Freightliner M2, with a 24-foot box that holds the Bookmobile’s collection of items.

Customers can browse library materials placed on custom shelving along the interior of the truck, and both the front and rear checkout desks are equipped with plexiglass protective barriers.

The passenger side has an exterior awning, and there are two solar panels on top of the vehicle.

The outside graphics on the truck represent the many materials library cardholders can borrow from the Bookmobile, such as books, movies, and music. The opening musical notes of Ohio’s official Rock Song, “Hang on Sloopy,” are depicted on each side of the truck. Drawings of books along the sides represent different areas or highlights in Trumbull County, with titles such as “Along the Mahoning River,” “Recipes from Vienna,” “The Packard Family,” and more.
