Early Literacy Skills

 

Early literacy skills are what children need to know about reading and writing before they can actually read or write. From birth through the preschool years, children learn these skills that are the building blocks for later reading and writing.

DayByDayOhio – A website for young children and their families, featuring the Day by Day Family Literacy calendar and other resources to promote family literacy and family engagement across Ohio. The calendar has a monthly theme and unique daily entries that encompass books, songs, activities, and family health and wellness information. DayByDayOH is a service of the State Library of Ohio in collaboration with Ohio Ready to Read, and is funded in part by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services.

Grow Up Reading – Information on brain development and emergent literacy is organized by age ranges.
